PELAGIA® is not only the name for Pearl, a luminescent jewel, but the name is also Italian. According to legend, at least two saints bear the name Pelagia. Saint Pelagia of Antioch was a fifteen-year-old virgin who, around the year 311, leapt from a rooftop rather than surrender her body to the impure attack of soldiers. Her days of celebration are June 9 and October 8. Saint Pelagia of Tarsus was a beautiful woman with many riches and luxurious clothing. She came to love Christ and was baptized by Bishop Linus. After giving away all of her material possessions, in the year 287 she was condemned by the emperor to a death by fire for remaining steadfast in her faith and refusing to give in to the emperor’s desires. Her day of celebration is May 17.
